El Regreso – Manchuela, Spain

Many of Spain's indigenous grape varieties have quietly disappeared over the past century, replaced by internationally recognised cultivars. Julián Ruiz, the winemaker behind El Regreso, has dedicated his project to reversing that trend by reviving forgotten local varieties and allowing them to express the landscape they belong to.

Marisancho is one of those rare grapes. Grown in the high-altitude vineyards of Manchuela, where warm Mediterranean days are tempered by cool nights, it produces a white wine that is both textured and remarkably fresh. Fermented with native yeasts and handled with minimal intervention, the wine preserves the authentic personality of both grape and vineyard.

The nose reveals ripe pear, yellow apple and citrus zest, followed by subtle dried herbs and a gentle mineral character. The palate is dry, savoury and energetic, finishing with impressive precision.
